Gather Around

I love to find unconventional pieces and give them a new purpose. Architectural elements work well for this. Furniture pieces work well too. That was the case for this piece. I picked up this wooden piece at a garage sale. It had hinges on the back. I am sure it was part of a piece of furniture, but I really have no idea what it was.

I knew I wanted to make a sign out of it. I sanded it down a bit and reglued the veneer on a couple of the corners.

Then I painted it with Waverly Chalk Paint in the Cashew color. I sanded and distressed the piece.

Then I created the stencil in the Silhouette Cameo design software.

I cut the stencil out of vinyl and applied it to the piece. I painted it a dark brown color. I removed the stencil and and distressed the lettering to give it a worn, vintage look.

I put a coat of polyurethane on the piece to protect the chalk paint. I added a picture hanger to the back and now it is ready to go!
